Q. Will it hurt?
For most bonding, no. Dr. Cannon is working on the outer surface of the tooth, so there is often nothing to drill and nothing to numb. If the chip goes deeper or the tooth is already sensitive, he will use anesthetic, and he will tell you before he does anything rather than during.
Q. How long does the appointment take?
Bonding one or two teeth is usually a single visit, and you can eat and drink normally afterward. The exact time depends on how many teeth are involved and how much shaping each one needs. We will give you a realistic estimate when we schedule so you can plan your day around it.
Q. How long does bonding last?
That depends on where it is, how you bite, and habits like chewing ice or biting your nails. Composite can pick up stain over time in a way natural enamel does not, especially with coffee or tobacco. The good part is that bonding can be polished, repaired or added to without starting over.
Important Terms
- Composite resin – A tooth-colored material that is soft when it is placed and hard once it is set. It comes from the same family of materials used for tooth-colored fillings.
